CLASP AVT MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Background Information
CLASP Auditory Verbal Therapy Center was established in July 2000 to provide quality individualized therapy for hearing-impaired children and their parents. The center also serves as a training center in the Philippines to teach therapists the philosophy of the Auditory -Verbal Therapy (AVT) method and train them in the specific skills necessary to bring profoundly hearing-impaired children to intelligible speech and language.

Since its conception, the therapists were mentored by Cheryl Dickson, Cert. AVT who was then based in Manila until 2001. In the year 2002, correspondence with Ms. Dickson, now based in Sydney, continued. Throughout this time, CLASP therapists have all been using auditory-verbal therapy as a method of habilitation. Last September 2003, two of CLASP's therapists, Leah Carmel M. Labrador and Rachel Claire M. Reyes, successfully passed the certification exam given by Auditory Verbal International (AVI), thus making them certified auditory verbal therapists. With this development, CLASP will now be able to train other therapists in the method of AVT.
